Reel American Heroes Foundation

The Reel American Heroes Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to promote recreational opportunities for Wounded Soldiers, Active Duty Soldiers and Veterans of the United States Military. Our organization sets up fishing tournaments at Military Bases in the United States throughout the year.

When the soldiers and their families arrive we provide all of them with free fishing equipment that they keep to further pursue the sport if they choose. Each morning all military related participants are paired up with volunteer anglers and taken out to fish an actual tournament. During each day, games, food, drinks and entertainment are all provided free of charge from launch to weigh-in. After the weigh-ins trophies are awarded to the top three soldiers (or family members) for the biggest fish in each category.

I am a retired Navy Commander. Served three tours in Viet Nam. I head up the military outreach program in our county and for our church. We live on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake and on the Chester River. I’d like to start a Take a Vet Fishing program with local people who are fishermen and own boats. Do you have any materials that I can use for publicity? Is there any way to work through you to make the cost of a trip tax-deductible? It might not be much, but it surely can’t hurt to encourage more fisherman to chip in.
Thank you!

Ron,

Thanks for connecting and thanks for your service.

There are several non-profits around the country that support similar initiatives. You may try to establish something with the one in your area or work with the one we are partnered with.

The American Outdoors Fund is committed to creating and supporting programs and projects that provide, improve or enhance opportunities for Veterans, children and families to enjoy outdoor activities.

Our mission is to distribute equipment and grant money to Veteran, Youth and Conservation based programs and charities, and to increase public awareness on the needs of the charitable causes we support through video production and cause marketing.

I recently watched the program where “Sarge” was on and I have to say I was sitting there in tears. I live in Philadephia Pa and I woulod love to get involved with a like program or start one if there is none now. I have tried to find them here on my own but I can’t seem to. Does anyone know of such a program in this area or how I would go about getting one going? Thank you!

Joe,

A great way to get started is to contact the VA, DVA or VFW in your area. Of course, Sarge is also a great source of info and support. You can contact him directly through his website at http://www.fishingoutreachprogram.com.

Good Luck.

My son is a disabled vet who loved to fish before his accident. He still remembers a little bit about fishing. I would love to take him fishing again. This is all he talks about. How do I get signed up for one of your trips.

Thank you
