I’m am absolutely blown away by the response to my first Ultimate Angler Blog post. We are hearing some amazing stories about anglers doing incredible things for others. I want to keep the conversation going so we are going to continue to accept nominations for deserving anglers to be recognized and rewarded with the fishing trip of a lifetime. I wish I could take treat everybody to one of these incredible trips, but there are far to many worthy people. Keep those nominations coming! I hope to award more trips every year. On that note...have you nominated anyone yet? This is your chance to make a difference in someone else's life. Make It Count!
Thanks to North American Fishing Club for the support, and Bass Talk Live for my web interview. The response has been amazing! Looks like we are going to team up with the BTL crew to try and raise some money at Fish ‘N Chips. Mark your calendar for a few days of bass fishing and high stakes poker with the ‘Masters the first week in November on Grand Lake.
Between Announcing at the Winter X Games in Aspen and covering Super Bowl events in Dallas, I have had no time to fish, but I did learn that a lot of my Action Sports buddies enjoy fishing, so look for us to do a really fun trip with those guys in Alaska later this year.
Okay, so maybe January wasn’t all business. I did manage to sneak in a little Peacock Bass fishing on a family visit to Miami. The Butterfly Peacocks we catch in Florida aren't as big as their Amazon cousins, but they are fierce fighters and a lot of fun. A few weeks later, I salvaged a very windy Saturday, by leaving the boat in the garage and taking a buddy and his son to a roadside pond. The three of us caught 23 Bass in an hour, which was a great reminder not to overlook the water in urban environments, like ponds near office buildings, hotels and restaurants. Some of those fish have never seen a lure.
Despite those 2 teaser sessions in January, I still desperately need a legit day on the water. Especially considering that the spawn is in full effect in Florida. If you're not as busy as I am, it's a great time to catch a trophy largemouth in Florida. I've been chomping at the bit to get out there. I know there is a 12 pound bass in my lake, and I just haven't had a chance to go find her. That's okay, I'm planning a day of Louisiana Redfishing before I go to the Bassmaster Classic. It's going to be a little odd not performing in my normal role at the Classic, but I am excited about going. The Classic Outdoor Expo is insane, and I've got quite a few meetings lined up to meet with sponsors and marketing partners. Needless to say, I'm excited about sharing the plans for the Experience. Just to make sure I'm staying busy, I'll also be covering the event for BassFan.com so be sure and log on to see what's up.
