Make It Count!

Keith Alan's Ultimate Angler Blog
Make It Count!

Consider what the most rewarding moments of your life have been.  For me it goes far beyond catching big fish or career opportunities to be on TV. My most rewarding moments aren't when I am the one in the spotlight.  On the contrary, they are when I am able to shine that light on somebody else.  I have had the privilege of doing that for Bassmaster Classic Champions, X Games icons and Olympic Gold Medalists, but nothing compares to the privilege of honoring American Military Heroes.

My Motivation

When I started Ultimate Fishing Experience I had a few motives.  Top of that list is sharing my passion for fishing by offering an opportunity to fish with the biggest names in the sport.  I've been fortunate to meet some incredible people and forge some great relationships over the years, so I picked up the phone and reached out for their support.  I'm grateful that so many have stepped up to help us offer these incredible fishing packages with the best anglers in the world, with a chance to not only learn the techniques, but also get the gear the Pros use.

We have certainly created something special. Now, it's time to do something significant with it.

I'm a big believer in Karma.  Be kind, take the high road, do good things, and good things will happen.  You can call it Karma, you can call it paying it forward or you can simply view it as a guy who has been blessed with great opportunities wanting to share with others. So, every year I will give away some very special Ultimate Fishing Experience Packages to deserving anglers.

Some Sacrificed A Little...Some Sacrificed Everything.

Heroes come in many forms.  They are military veterans and fire fighters, they are teachers, coaches, police officers and single parents, they are children persevering through challenges and mentors who positively impact other people's lives. Heroes are the people that unselfishly give of themselves whether for an individual in need, for our society, our environment or our freedom.

They serve our country and they serve humankind.

It's our turn to give something back.

Nominate A Hero

I need your help finding Heroes who not only enjoy fishing, but also love it so much they watch it on TV and read about it on line or in magazines. The more he or she loves fishing, the better the Experience.  This will be the fishing trip of a lifetime and there will be no cost whatsoever to you or the Hero.

The only catch, is that it must be a surprise.

Nominate a Hero who loves to fish.  Don't nominate yourself.

You may submit your nomination via our on-line nomination form or sending an e-mail to info@ultimatefishingexperience.com.  Include your name and contact info and why you think the person you are nominating deserves to be recognized and rewarded with an Ultimate Fishing Experience Package.

This is the chance to reward a Hero with the fishing trip of a lifetime. Make it count!

Please don't involve your Hero in the nomination process.  It must be a surprise.

I would like to nominate Kim Steuart, the founder of Joseph’s Journey. He has helped make dreams come true for these terminally ill children. I have participated in several fund raisers for them and I must say, my time could not go to a better cause.

Kim and his organization do amazing things for these wonderful children. Please take a look at what they do for these children, http://www.josephsjourney.org.

Kim deserves this opportunity to get away and fish for Florida giants with an Elite Pro!

Thank you,

Matt Massey

I would like to nominate Mike Dove for everything he has done and is doing for our Veterans; The Path Home Project is a long overdue program. They trained us to go to war but didn’t even help us to return to a civilian. His participation in the American Legion is greatly appreciated as well as his help with the American Legion Riders. GOOD LUCK MIKE.

I would like to nominate my husbands Charles. He lost his fishing buddy (his brother) 2 years ago and he has not been fishing alot lately. It just hasn’t been the same for him since that day. They use to fish so much together and I think maybe a nice fishing trip would snap him back into his passion that he loves so much. Thank You.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my father Jim Bidwell. In my 44 years on this earth I have watched this man go out of his way to help everyone he ever met. For years he would make and take meals to anyone that he felt would not have a hot meal. If someone were moving my father was right there with the truch ready to help. This man loves to fish and loves helping people. So I think he is the best father and example of human kindness that I have ever seen. He is my hero and the hero to many, many people over his lifetime.

Thanks,

Marsha

Erie Pa. A great advocate for all sports womem and men in our area

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband, Ron Colburn. He recently retired after serving over 31 years as a defender of our country and our country’s borders, with the Dept. of Justice, and the Dept. of Homeland Security. He was an “operator,” –an “action guy.” He is now co-founder of a non-profit foundation that provides support to surviving families of law enforcement officers who are killed in the line of duty. Upon retirement, his dream was to “just go bass fishing.” He is struggling with cancer, and gastrointestinal health issues, but is still healthy enough to get out there on a boat (or a shooting range, for that matter). It would be a dream come true for a guy who has always placed himself “in harm’s way” for America.

01.22.11

The Lower Great Lakes have long suffered from mysterious ailments. I did a ton of research that came back to “Inhibited ice flow”. They were all related to a disruption in the normal and natural ice flow from Lake Erie, down the Niagara River and out into Lake Ontario. This hypothesis evolved into “Ice Boom Theory” In the years of trying to get people to take notice I have sold my house, truck and boats to fund this crusade. It is a huge environmental disaster happening right under everyone’s nose. (You can smell it by the way) I’d like some help. Thanks. JBB

She didn’t get to do ANY fishing last season because she was working full time and coming home to cook, clean and take care of me and her teenage son. She is an amazing person and has introduced me to fishing! I think she could actually be a professional fisher-woman. Whenever we go fishing she is always the only girl and she is as good as the men! Thanks in advance for your attention.

I would like to nominate my hero, my husband. He is a wounded Marine Veteran who loves to fish. He lost his right eye from a fall of 25 feet. I am the only one that goes with him and it is difficult for me to go, because I am currently in college. I would love to present him with this as a gift for being there for me, and never once asking — what about me?

Hello. I am writing on behalf of Denise Wolfe. She is a friend of mine. We did not know each other until a year ago. When we metit was evident she was a fisherman. She lives and breaths the sport. She has a few awards, master angler and catch and release. She has even caught fish fished for others and in doing so put supper on their table. she cares for others in her own way. She has taken others out to fish and also shown young ones techniques. She is a giving person with a big heart. If someone is in need and she can fill it, she does. She would love a fishing trip like this. She has dreamed of doing this but never seems to go. She respects the sport and all it encompasses.

Your Comments It is a little too late, but I want to nominate my Step- Father who just passed away January 8th 2011 at the age of 89. He was a decorated World War II vet who was awarded the Silver star for saving a fellow soldiers life by carrying to safety in the jungle of New Guinea. His story will live on in the war museum in Madison WI.
He was a wonderful man who never had a mean thing to say about anyone. He was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Mason reching the prestigous status of Grand Master. He was also a Master plumber.I really can not say enough about this man, he really had an influence on me and was a great fishing partner when we were able to get together. When was young he bought me some new equipment thatelped to some of my frustration and fostered my love for fishing. I am not really asking for anything other than his name to be mentioned in his honor. He truly loved the sport of fishing and the sport has lost somone who truly made it better by the conservation he taught others and how he cared about the environment and the future of the sport. He name is James Franklin Kincaid. He will be missed.

Greg is his name and he is a hero to me.
I never had an opportunity to learn how to fish or do most anything outdoors. It was something I always wished I could do.
Greg baited my hooks(a hundred times), re-strung my line after It caught in trees( how many times??) and never once criticized or complained for over two years now . This man has givin me hundreds of lessons and more then a lifetime of angling tips.
He is the most deserving, humble, gracious man who deserves a new boat more then anyone I know.
Thank You!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my son, David Macaulay. Right now he goes by the moniker, LCPL MACAULAY DAVID L. He is currently serving all of us in Afghanistan. When he is home he is either getting ready to fish, fishing, or reading about fishing. When he was 11 he witnessed the 911 catastrophe. That is when he decided he would join the Marines and protect his nation. Up to that point he was a daily, take your pole and get on your bike and ride to the local fishing hole, kind of kid. After that he became determined to protect all of us and our country so that other kids could be like he was. When he gets home we are going fishing again, but he deserves a reward for 10 years of devotion to this cause.

When he came home he was the first mayor of a little town called Fordoche, La. This is where he was born and raised. He has lived here all his life and he loves to hunt and fish. He loves Baseball,Football, and any sport that is competitive. He retired from the Ironworkers Local 623. During his stint in the local he has worked nearbout every man that has asked for a job with him from Fordoche. He is my dad and I am very proud of him. He has a great many more accomplishments, I don’t think you have room on here for them all. So if anyone is any more deserving of this, it is him.
Thanks for letting me enter my dad.

Your Comments I would like to nominate my son Chris Michael Helsel for your fishing trip. Chris is a pastor in a new small Assembly of God Church in Austin , Tx. He and his wife are the youth directors. As such, they spend many hours with kids from all sorts of “family life.” That should be enough but as a pastor, he is often called at home to go attend adults that are part of his flock. While this might sound routine for a pastor, with Chris that is not enough. His income occupation is a computer supervisor for the state government in Austin. He recieves no wages from the church. To him, sleep or rest is something others get and he could only wish for. For him to ”
get-away” and wet a line would be a real blessing and joy.
Thank you for this consideration.

I am asking for you to consider this person who lives and breaths fishing. This lady is known throughout the community as Captain Jack. She has been given this title because of her passion for fishing. She loves to fish the North Plate river and the Fremont Lakes. I think that the reason she should be considered for this is not because of her love for fishing but what she does with the fish. She is on disability and is a very hard worker in the community. Now to tell you what she does with the catch is what is so rewarding, she will go and catch and give to people who are hurting for food. She will catch and release to the underprivileged who can’t go fishing for them selves. She understands the art of others and serves them well. She does sell some as she doesn’t get alot of funds for the month. This is due to the people who offer to pay her. When she is stressed you will always find her unwinding at the river. Please consider her as she has never had the opportunity to ever have something this good happen to her.

I would like to nominate my fishing buddy Dana Andrewson. Dana is a probation officer who works in a program specifically for offenders with mental illness. Dana treats everyone with dignity and respect. He works with people who society has often given up for lost. He works to find them homes, jobs, treatment and support. He advocates for them in court and helps to keep them out of jail and in the community where they can get the help they need and be restored to productive members of their communities instead of a burden on the tax roles. In addition he is selfless in his personal life and has cared for friends suffering from ALS and an complications from diabetes. He is the first one to grab his wallet when someone is collecting for a cause, illness or funeral despite his meager salary. I would like to nominate one of the most awesome men I have ever been blessed to know. His name is Harold “Pete” Gresham and he is my Uncle Pete. He has been so much more throughout his life. He is a widower and still to this day adores his wife, my Aunt Helen. Uncle Pete would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He is kind, gentle, and loving and always there for everyone else before himself. He has opened the door to his home for many people over the years. He is not my “birth uncle” but that never mattered. He married my aunt when I was very young and never has treated me as anything less than a daughter. My aunt had children before they married and he took everyone to his heart just as if they were his own. They adopted my brother when he was little and Uncle Pete is DAD and all that goes with that. He has given my children and I a home when we had no where else to go. He is a strong Christian man who absolutely loves God, his family, and fishing. We go every chance we get. And he tries to go even more than that. It is his solace and his peace. Giving this amazing man a trip such as this at age 70 would be the gift of a lifetime. And I, along with many others truly believe that he deserves it.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my cousin ruben espinoza. He has served 32 years in the military commanding thousands of men including a man who won the medal of honor. He has won many medala and has currently retired a sergant major in the united states army. He is saving lives on and off the battlefield constantly with his words of wisdom and his actions.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband, Clifton Hoke. We’ve been together all our lives. Almost everyday he fishes or teaches someone how to fish or fly cast. He always, for the last 15 years, helps the kids around the lakes learn how to be better fisherman and how to be a good keeper to our environment. Most of the kids and their families are quite disadvantaged as are we in economic terms. But the love, enthusiasm and joy he brings to this sport raises it to a level of an art form. Many times he has come home rod-less because he ‘lent’ it to some one so they could learn. He has always felt that lack of money
should not be the reason a child doesn’t learn how to fish and enjoy
this timeless activity.

He’s never had what could be called good equipment, I know this because he’s alway saying, ‘Hey honey look at this rod!’, and because he always buys his rods at Wal-Mart or yard sales. Neither myself nor my sons could ever afford to just send him fishing tho’
we’d love to do so.

My husband is just a genuine loving individual and I know that’s why we’ve been together since 1966. For him, this would indeed be a life-changing opportunity. With three grandchildren now, he’s going to have his hands full.

01.22.11

I am nominating Dave Esposito, Dave is a police officer who I have had the great fortune to have worked with. We were on a domestic violence call one evening which ended with me getting injured by a suspect. This injury has forced me into early retirement. All to often when guys leave police work they are quickly forgotten. Beside being there with me as a fellow police officer Dave goes out of his way to remember to include me in any off duty get together. Whether its a lunch or day out on the water for some fishing. It is because of Daves unselfish acts of kindness and his sacrifices for humanity that I nominate him for this generous opportunity you are providing.

01.22.11

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband, who is also my best friend. Cliff has had numerous medical problems in the last eight years, and has had to cut back on fishing. This man has helped numerous young men work thru the problems of life, all with a fishing rod in his hand and a gleam in his eye when he lands that fish. The problems of life stand still long enough to see the options, and choose accordingly. I am so proud to be married to one of THE GOOD GUYS. Thank you for letting me share my wonderful friend with you.

01.22.11

Your Comments MY SON JOEY BECAUSE HE WANTS TO LEARN TO FISH AND I AM A SIGLE MOTHER WHO LOVES HIS SON VERY MUCH. I would like to nominate my husband Stephan. Of course he’s a great, supportive spouse, but a terrific son & son-in-law as well.

Despite his often hectic work schedule he finds time to spend with me and is always available if his parents or my mom needs help; e.g. vehicle repair, electrical work, home repairs, etc.

Fishing has become a favorite hobby of his and he tries to go often but sometimes has had to drop his plans at he last minute should work or family commitments arise. I’m sure he gets disappointed about it but never complains because he’s the type of guy who always tries to help people out if he can.

Because of his selfless devotion to work and family I feel he definately deserves this special “me time” fishing experience.

Thank you for considering my husband, Stephan.

01.22.11

Your Commentsi would like to nominate my friend robert clark for all think he has done for me.

01.22.11

I nominate Sean Manzo, I had no idea how to even use a spinner 2 years ago at 28 years old. I had only caught trout up to 12 inches max my entire life. Sean Manzo my cousin took me under his wing and taught me everything he knows about fishing and last season I caught 9 steelhead over 32 inches and three chinook over 10 pounds because of his teachings. He may not be a pro but in my book he is the reason I can call myself a fisherman today.

I would like to nominate my father R. Saldi Sr. he was just diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of 70. It would be a silver lining in his gray clouds to brighten his days a little as I haven’t been around in awhile to go fishing with him. I can remember when I was a little boy and he would take me fishing at lake Huron, those were some great times. Since he was 35 he has always made every sacrifice for his family and now I think his time to experience a great trip is due.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband Edward. I have never met a man that loves to fish as much as he does. He watches all the fishing shows and I can see how much he would love to be out there.

All his life he has given to others and I would love to be able to give this to him. It would be a dream come true.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my cousin Bob Bezjak the best and most focused fisherman I know. He retaught me how to truely enjoy a day with line in the wateras well as teaching his 3 children (1 boy, 2 girls) the in’s and out’s, up’s and down’s and proper etiquite of fishing and nature preservation (all we leave behind are footprints). His children are grown now and he deserves an “ulimate fishing trip” more than anyone I know, not just because he is a great fisherman but because of the way he has taught another generation to respect, enjoy, preserve and teach that which he loves.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my father. I am 47 years old and for as long as I can remember, my father has been there for me. He took me fishing the very first time I ever went and to my amazement put me on fish. He has never failed to be a fishing partner, never complains when we didn’t catch fish even when I was in the military and stationed in Kansas and he traveled from Tennessee after my stories of jumbo sized crappie and he never caught any. My dad commented “its ok son, there is always a next time and at least we had this time to fish”. My father is now 74 and I really don’t know how many more we will have but I know they will be appreciated regardless what the livewell shows. I know he would love a fishing trip anywhere and hope to spend many more days on the lake with him. Thank you

I am nominating Isaac Cardenas. He took shrapnel from an IED in Iraq and was forced to medically retire from the Marine Corps. He spends most of his time on the water now, and this would be a great way to show to show our appreciation for what he sacrificed for our country and fellow Marines.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate Vern Long. He is a disabled vet who goes way out of his way to help other disabled vets collect thier diserved disabilities. He drives his fellow vets all over the state of Tenesse to thier doctor appointments ect. Never really has time for his grand kids let alone a nice fishing trip.

He was deployed two years consecutive then home for 4 months and sent to Iraq. As bad as he wanted to stay state side his unit did not give him the required 6 months he is supposed to have. He has been in the military for about 24 years and has dedicated his life to this country and I know he would be exstatic to win this trip. Thank you for your time and consideration…Ben Savage

01.22.11

hero nomination Abigail Baker she is my 6yr old daughter. She started last season on Northwest Bass tournaments with me. she finished the season as a 6 yr old. She is the youngest to complete the pro / semi pro series ever. I wonder if she is the youngest active pro ever! anyway she braved the cold in spring, long days without a bite, hot summer days, the long drives and early morning alarms to get ready for the tourney that day. she never complained, I do not force her to fish, sometimes she snoozes under the dash till it gets light out. She only ever asks to go play with the other kids on shore and so we pull in early from tournaments early so she can play or if it was a rough day on the water. She is only 6 and i do not want her to hate the sport. Her job in life she will tell you is to make people smile. What a great partner I have, she always makes me smile and reminds me to have fun fishing. And yes sometimes she does out fish daddy either in numbers or with the big one for the day in our boat. She always helps out. This January at a local sports mens show on closing day she helped the people working a department store display put away stuff in containers while I was putting our local bass club stuff in storage boxes. Thats just my Abby, helpful, cheerful and a big heart for everyone she meets. She loves telling the tails about beating other teams, and that she caught all the fish too! She is my hero, I hope I can keep her interested, on fish, and competing! Look out you old grumpy fishermen, a new generation is on your bass!

She helps others by scooping snow or cleaning their homes her best job is FISHING. She gives to those who can’t afford a lot and helps them out. Her time fishing is like heaven on earth. I have never seen anyone so at peace as her sitting on the banks and getting that hit on her line. I would like her to have this chance because she taught herself and I would love her to learn more I know it would be a blessing for her. Thank you for your time. Bless all

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my friend Steve Eggleston. Fishing is his world!!! I actually think he should teach the sport. Everyone he comes in contact with learns alot and he’s teaching me as well.

01.22.11

My friend Rob Reimer has devoted his life to helping others find their way in the world. I helped Rob attain his tennis professional certification with the United States Professional Tennis Association USPTA. Since becoming certified he has donated over 1440 hours of his time and thousands of dollars in support of the Athena High School boys and girls tennis programs in Rochester, NY.

I was homeless at one point in my life and Rob allowed me to stay in one of his rental properties for free. He allowed me to manage the property and collect money from the other tenants to support myself. Eventually, my health forced me into the hospital and he visited me and supported me with his time and money until I recovered.

He also is the manager of a Real Estate office in Rochester, NY. After I recovered, he helped me obtain my license to be able to sell Real Estate with both the application fee, course tuition and all professional licensing fees.

I thought that I was on the way toward full recovery from alcohol and drug addictions but eventually I relapsed and he needed to fire me. This was painful for him but he told me that “I was a drunk and needed professional help”. Because he was my friend he told me the truth about myself and this motivated me to seek help.

He helped me get admitted into a mental health facility where I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression and bipolar disorder. This diagnosis and evaluation for Drug & Alcohol Abuse qualified me to enter a program of recovery from addiction. While a patient in the mental health facility and as an in-patient recovering in this Alcohol and Drug Abuse program, he again supported me with his time and money.

After my recovery program was complete he continued to observe my behavior and when he was convinced that I was recovered he decided that I needed to get on with my life and get “out-and-about”. He purchased an automobile for me and paid for the taxes, registration and insurance for the vehicle. The rest as they say is history.

Eventually I have regained my self-esteem and respect for myself. As a result of Rob’s continued support as a friend and benefactor my life has changed for the better in the following ways: I am married; my children again respect me as their father; I have been born again as a Latter Day Saint; Graduated with a BA in Psychology; attend graduate school for an MS in Sport Psychology, am applying for admittance into a PhD program for clinical psychology; and have returned to teaching tennis to support myself and my family.

He could have written me off as a drunk and a bum and deserted me in my times of trouble but he saw something in me that I did not see in myself. I am now a responsible and productive member of society.

Now let me tell you how he has taken me under his wing and is teaching me how to fish. We fish often with his gear and bait from his boat. He has taught me that fishing is much more than just catching fish. His passion for fishing is being passed on to me. More importantly he is teaching me how to live a productive life and give to others what he has given to me.

I am eternally grateful for God sending me the gift of Rob Reimer and his friendship. I cherish our times together while teaching tennis, fishing and just hanging out together. He has been a powerful example of human compassion, kindness, caring for others and love no matter what. I therefore nominate him for this once in a lifetime fishing experience because he has earned this trip both on and off of the water.

Gratefully submitted by
Jerry Brodt

I would like to nominate my oldest son. While serving in Iraq (2010) with one of the Army’s Strykers divisions, he and his squad came under fire following an IED attack. One of his friends was injured during the fire fight and my son risked his life to save a fellow soldier. Since that attack in the early part of his tour, he went from a PFC to 1st Lieutenant while in Iraq. He’s completed Ranger school, Pathfinder, Air assult and was patched over to Special Forces in Iraq. He has had to assist in body/parts recovery following IED attacks of his soldiers along with enduring numerous attacks on his FOB (forward operating base) which inflicted many injuries and deaths. He’s done all of this and wont turn 21 till Feb, 2011. He’s been thru and done so much at a young age. I just want him to have a special gift, so he can replace some of the bad memories in his head.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate a man who has served his country well. He has been an excellent husband, friend, and brother. This man is my husband, Spc. Robert W. Robison Jr. He works very hard and takes very little time for himself. He’s had to leave his family and friends for long periods of time to help keep us safe. He doesn’t complain. He returned home to help with a recycling group and to help by assisting his unit’s Family Readiness Group. There is no job too big or too small for him. The only time he does take for himself is spent on his favorite hobby: FISHING! He really deserves recognition and acknowledgement for being such a hard worker.

Thank you for considering my nomination!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate any fatherless kid. Growing up without my dad was real hard. Lets make a dream come true for a kid. Doesn’t matter which one because there are thousands all over the US and globally. A timeless skill passed on generation to geneation , lets make sure this way of life endures….forever!

01.22.11

01.22.11

Donna,

How old is your son now?

01.22.11

There are many people who come to my mind when I think of a hero. The one that stands out the most and the one that I would like to nominate is my husband Michael. He works hard everyday to provide for us and our 2 children. He never complains, I see the times that he struggles but he gets up every morning and heads out to work. He does this so that I can stay home with our children. That was my dream. He has made it come true. His big dream is to someday become a professional fisherman!! Honestly that dream is a long time coming. I just seen this opportunity, I thought maybe I could do a little something to help make a tiny part of his dream come true. If not I still got to tell you a little bit about my Hero and how much he means to me!!!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate myself because I do not have any friends to nominate me. I moved to Wyoming in1998. I live right next to the North Platte River. I’ve been totally disabled since 1991. I live just east of Pathfinder Resivoir. My disability is my hands and wrists and left knee. Its very hard for me to even reel in a 2 pound fish. I used to go fishing every week when I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. My one best fishing budy died about 9 years ago, and my other best fish budy moved to Idaho. In the 11 years that I have lived by the Miracle Mile on the Platte River, I’ve fished maybe 7 times. I moved here to go fishing. But I need help just to reel the fish in. It’s my life dream to fish with a famous pro.Well anough about my boobin. The rel reson I am Writing this letter is that I want to help the Veterans again. When I was 12 years old I was one of the biggest distributors of the P.O.W.’s and M.I.A.s bracelets in Salt Lake City, Utah area. I had alot of older friends that had to go to Vietnam. For some it was either go to Vietnam or go to jail. Thats how our government got alot of thier recruits for the war. I’ve still have some posters and a few applications for the bracelets that we would were to get our P.O.W.s and M.I.A.s.. I have donated to Casper,Wyoming two posters. One was to bring the traveling wall to Casper and the other I donated a poster to the Veterans Museum. My first bracelet that I wore was Senator John McCain. I wore 4 bracelets .2 were nickel and 2 were copper. It was $2.50 for the nickel and $3.00 for the copper ones. Iwould like to donate a poster and a application to the new Veterans Museum they are building in Washington D.C.. I even have application with a guy that was captured in 1959. Most people do not know that the U.S.A. was in the war since the early 1950’s helping the French. The non-profit company was VIVA. My father Robert Andrew Swenson and I watched the first plane with the P.O.W.s come home to the U.S.A. at 2:30 A.M. Mountain time. I think Senator John McCain was on the first plane. He was limping when he walked. I cried. I sent his bracelet to him like we were suppose to. All I’m asking is that Senator McCain comes to Casper, Wyoming himself to recieve the poster and application for the new V.A. museum. I have done alot of research and I seem to be the only one with these particular type poster, and the only one with the applications. All the other posters are one’s yhat protested the war.Mine are the only ones that are triing to help the P.O.W.s and M.I.A.s. If anyone can help me get ahold of Senator McCain I sure would appreciate it. My name is Cory S. Swenson . My phone # is 307-259-0900. Please help me get ahold of Senator McCain. Thank You. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. DON’T TREAD ON ME!!!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband, Shannon to win this trip. Besides being an avid (and good!) fisherman and entering many Red Man tournaments, state police tournaments and local fishing tournaments, my husband doesn’t just stop at enjoying fishing himself. He has taken the time (and pleasure!) to teach his son-in-law and grandson and two grandaughters the art and fun of fishing. He and his brother often go fishing on local lakes for crappie and bass and, well, whatever will bite…but they do not keep all of their catch for themselves! They have a great time frying up fish for our church family and letting them enjoy the awesome taste of nature, because otherwise some of our brothers and sisters at church cannot get out to catch their own and sharing is one of God’s greatest gifts. My husband will often take a boatload of his nieces and nephews fishing, some for the first time, and he will teach them how to land their first fish…I don’t know who gets the biggest pleasure…my husband or his “fishing buddy”. He never tires of introducing the outdoors to anyone who has the desire to learn the fine art of fishing! He has even gone so far as to GIVE some of his fishing rods and lures to a fellow worker so he could have a rod and lures to use until he could buy his own. Selfless, sharing, caring, patient, loving the outdoors and being thrilled at the time of the catch…large or small…that pretty well describes my Shannon. Thanks for listening! God bless you all!

01.22.11

I know the perfect man that truly deserves to win this trip, his name is Max Matthews. Max is by far the most generous man I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He grew up with foster parents that had a big farm and he had to work very hard to earn his keep. He served our country when he was old enough in the army. He married after that, had and raised sixteen children that all turned out with strong values. He worked as a paramedic and he invented the first very backboard that is the industries standard. He has always been an avid sportsman and raised all of his children to appreciate and respect all things in nature. His only down fall has been his constant generosityto anyone in need, even complete strangers, and although he has been taken advantage of more times than anyone I know, he remains the most generous man I have ever known. I could go on and on about Max’s accomplishments, his generousity, his respect for all of nature, and his humbleness but the bottom line is he is still giving to those in need despite the fact that he can barely survive financially since he lost his true love a little over a year ago. I am of no relation to Max, just one of the many people who is fortunate to have known him and who is a better person as a result. I am truly certain that no one even comes close to deserving this trip more than him!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate Myself Antoine Collins I just returned from Serving overseas back in May 2010. I’m now in FL serving my country as a Recruiter. I try to fish as often as possible when time permits. Serving this country has been a childhood dream come true. Fishing for me is my way to relax I get out on the water and lose track of time. My wife once asked me do I love fishing more than her I said no fishing is my therapy. Fishing keeps me from thinking about my experiences in Iraq and the day to day life as a Soldier because not every american appreciate us for Serving I have witness this first hand. This is why I nominate myself to win

01.22.11

Antoine,

Thank you for your service. Where in Florida do you live and what if your favorite type of fishing?

01.22.11

I nominate my Father, Richard Green Buttrey. He is the hardest working, honest, and family-dedicated man I have known or even heard of. When I was around 14, my Father’s plant shut down and he was out of a job. Rather than feel sorry for himself, he immediately got a job that was far too difficult for a man of his age and stature and he eventually collapsed doing it. Once again he went to work as soon as he was physically capable-at TWO jobs, seven days a week because he wanted to have money for his kid’s college. He loves to fish and the best bonding moments he and I have ever experienced have been out on the lake. I remember he stuck a cane pole in my hand when I was 4 and that instilled the love of fishing in me at an early age. Even over the years when I became a rebellious teenager and an even more rebellious adult, we could still go fishing together. There is not a more worthy individual on this planet for this award than my Father. He helps all our neighbors even now at 75 and is a good Christian man. He mows their lawns and landscapes at our Church. I know I would not be here now if it was not for him. Thanks for everything, Dad. I LOVE YOU!

01.22.11

Disabled American Veterans are the ones who would enjoy this trip, they have fought long and hard to keep our country safe and strong without them who knows were our world would be or where we would be. They deserve this trip more than anyone and once you decide who the individual will be, i would love to be on the boat with them if you have any room never fished like you guys.

01.22.11

I’d like to nominate my mentor Mike Wilson. He has gone out of his way more times than I can count to help teach others how to fish. I”ve seen him loose fish while giving pointers to complete strangers. He is also active in our chapter of Trout Unlimited where he has been instrumental in leading the chapter into a more active role of preserving our waterways. He has also approached schools in the area to help them learn more of the ecological impact we all have on our waters. Finally, he is a strong presence in several fishing derbys for the young and/or handicapped. Thanks for your time.

I nominate Frederick Senkel of emmitsburg md

01.22.11

I would like to nominate Mr. David Wilson of the Phenix City Board Of Education, Phenix City Alabama . He is the Director Of Operations. Prior to the duties he now does. He has been assistant principal at the high school and a coach. He also does ministry work. Over the years Mr. Wilson has helped many people in many ways. Mr. Wilson puts in alot of hours away from home and leisure time ( Fishing, huntinting, etc. ) working to make sure that the students, teachers, faculaty and staff of schools and employees have what we need . We think, because of the many hours sacrificed away from home and leisure time for the benefit of others Mr. Wilson has made a difference and is a hero. He also deserves to get away from it all and have a fishing trip of a lifetime.

01.22.11

I would like to nminate my husband, Charles (Buster) Gillis. He has been in the fishing industry for over 38 years, guiding and chartering the Sea Hawk III. He is retiring this year. He has taught so many people how to fish for both freshwater and saltwater. His only son,Chuck had a motorcycle accident when he was 19 (previously he had worked as Busters first mate) and has been in the local nursing home for over 23 years. Buster spends each night visiting, feeding and getting his son in bed. He has went to te nursing home every night even if he has spent 12-15 hours on the water in any type of weather to make sure his son is doing well and to let him know he is there. I believe Buster needs some special recognition himself and the best way I know is with a special fishing trip. He lives for his son and to fish. Thanks for considering him.

01.22.11

I would like to suggest John. John is disabled, loves to fish. However with his health and finanical problems, he seldom ever get to fish. For 7 years he was a stay at home caregiver for his wife, she since has passed away. John lives for Jesus and helps all that comes in his path. Please consider him.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my son Robert L. Oliver. He just went through major surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. This would be a great tool on his road back. He loves to fish, so I think this would be good to get his mind off his troubles.

01.22.11

The sad thing is my mom doesnt fish like she used to because she sold all her fishing stuff for my brother an sister an me, we all cried because of it but she had to make a scarifice! She is hoping to go to school for game warden an wildlife soon! PLease vote my mom< if you meet her you would know she is a fishing mom hero! She hasnt smiled in a long time< an us being kids cant do alot for her so THIS WOULD BE AMAZING! tHANKS

01.22.11

i would like to nominate my grandfather Milton P. Sebring SR. this man is my hero he’s helped me through thick and thin and would do anything for anybody. He loves to fish and hunt but these last few years he has undergone three major surgery’s fist was prostate cancer then a cloged artery in his neck now just recently brain cancer. So therefore he hasn’t been able to go fishing at all. it would really mean the absolute world to him to take just one more very nice fishing trip before he is unable to even get out of bed in the morning. it honestly would mean the world to him and i think after all he’s been through that he deserve’s this. 🙂

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband Keith Kissinger. he loves to fish for anything and he has always wanted to go somewhere and fish. He has had friends to ask him to go on fishing trips but we never have the money for him to go on a week long trip with his buddies. thank you for your time and consideration of my husband for one of his dreams.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate Harvey Gerber for many reasons, but two primarily.
First for ten years of service with no compensation for raising the money
to build the Boys and Girls Club of Beverly Hills, Fl.
Second for helping myself and others of low income to build and own a house for our families. I would not have been able to call myself a home owner if not for the kindness and generous actions of Harvey. I completed my house in June 2010, and we are about to complete a house for another family, and a third house is about to begin.
He does these things out of the goodness of his heart and receives nothing in return and is embarassed if you try to thank him. I have never met anyone more caring of his fellow man.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband Michael C. McCain for many reason. To start with I have been married to him for 26 years and he has always put others first before himself. We have two children born to us and that was not enough he also adopted 2 kids from drug infected mothers, one is now 30 years old and a great bass fisherman, the second is 16, who also likes to fish. My husband is a Police Captain who is in his 30th year and getting ready to retire but he want turn loose. For the last 15 years he has being doing a project that he started in 1995 call Shoppe with a Cop where he raises money to buy Christmas for kids who may not get gifts. On average he has raised enought money each year to help 75 kids with this year being his best ever raising over 6,000.00 and you should see the smiles on the faces of these kids. Like I said my husband is always doing for others. I know he loves to fish he talks about it all the time but never seems to have the time to go. Please consider him for your contest. Thank you for the opportunity.

01.22.11

Your CommentsI want to nominate my husband, Artie. He is an OTR truck driver and is out on the road all week. He comes home and has to work there too. He loves to fish but doesn’t have much time before he has to go back on the road again. He’s a great guy with a big heart. Willing to go the exta mile for his friends and family. He deserves this and a lot more.

01.22.11

I would like to nominate Anthony (Tony) Ferro, the owner of H E Tackle. When he was forced into early retirement, he opened a freshwater tackle shop out of his own pocket. He has fished since childhood, but now helps other fisherman 7 days a wekk, year around. He ties flies and tube flies, and carves beautiful life size freshwater fish. But mostly he helps other fishermen enjoy the sport and has no time to fish himself. He will open the shop early or late if a fisherman needs something and bends over backward to get people into fishing with the best gear at the right price, rather than sell them what they don’t need to learn the sport. I emailed you photos of a Large Mouth Bass he carved. Wouldn’t it be great if someone hooked a lunker like that on this trip? Thanks, Lynda Kolbinskie

01.22.11

The story of fishing is built on anxiety, patients and character all of which describe my nomination of Mr. Dan Kendal of Indianapolis, Indiana. Dan is my fly fishing mentor with whom I’ve spent many an afternoon, learning the fine art of fly placement, water study, habitat suroundings and listening to tales longer than both our arms. Dan’s look, his dimeanor and the way he approaches the sport are all special, however, everything he does is a lesson for us all to learn and live up to. Dan is a true sportsman, a great fishing buddy and a true friend!

01.22.11

i would like to nominate my dad. while fishing for blues in 50 degree water in december,my kayak turned over in a current and started to sweep me away. my father managed to row fast enough to get to me in time saving me.

01.22.11

I would like to recomend my son, he joined the army to serve our country after his dad passed away, my son was 21 at the time he went in with the intentions of retireing in there, but after a little over a year in the service, the Army found out that he had inherited his dads heart problems and the Army had to send him home on a medical discharge. Before joining the Army he was in the National Guard for about 4 yrs. My husband passed away at the age of 52 he had 3 arteries replaced when he was 34 and the doctor says that no matter what my son does he can not get rid of his problems and there is nothing he could have done to prevent this from happening to him. I would like for my son to win this trip because he has been so down hearted since his return home, because he probably will not live to see 60 just like his dad, he loves to fish but he can’t afford a boat, all he does is stay home all alone, he has never been married because he says it is not fair to bring a woman into his life and put her through what I went through with his dad. It would mean so much to him to win this trip. He has not been happy since his dads death and having to come home from the Army.

01.22.11

Your Comments Mathew Jenkins while fishing in 40 deg. lake Michigan watched a boat flip over. He went to the resque of three 70 year old men that were in the water,no life jackets on and heavy clothing. He and some friends were albe to pull the three men from the water and get them to shore 6 mile away. All three servived due to actions taken by Mathew. He is a true hero. Just ask the three men!
1/31/2011

01.22.11

Your Comments I would like to nominate Barb Morriset, she is an avid angler who works with “Let go Fishing with Seniors” which is an org. here in Minnesota that takes seniors out on a pontoon for a day of fishing. These senior would not have the chance to go fishing otherwise. Barb also sends care packages to those who are fighting for our country. She also lets me tag along fishing with her. She is a great friend and deserves this opportunity. She takes care of others much more than she takes care of herself.

01.22.11

My husband, Ray Pruiett, served in Korea and while not badly wounded, carries his wounds within himself. Once in awhile they sneak out in the form of nightmares and he is 81. Ray travels to Nome in the summer to fish mostly but the excuse is he is goldmining. He has helped many a newbie learn to fish.
His wife

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my step dad Clyde. For 30 years he has devoted his self to our family. He has given without thought and loved without condition. Last year we layed our mom to rest and he lost his wife his buddy his sole mate but he was there for us. tring to console us. They used to travel and fish all the time but now he sits at home. he is a nam vet he has given so much that I would like to give him something that i will never be able to afford. I would do almost anything for the chance for him to have this Thank you

01.22.11

I would lke to nominate my father. He has saved me in more ways than you can imagine. Last summer he missed a game he was to play in when he found a man lying in the middle of a busy road. The gentleman had a massive heart attack. My dad did not hesitate to administer CPR until the paramedics arrived and were able to take over. Granted he is a firefighter himself, this was above and beyond the call of duty as others did not even stop to help.

There are many reasons as to why I am nominating him but there just isn’t enough room on here to list them all. This would mean a lot to me and my father as he lost his hero, his own father, a few years ago to cancer and fishing just hasn’t been the same for him. (Especially when his daughter loses a great lure her grandfather made while fishing in Canada.)

Not to mention, who else would leave their house at 5am in the middle of an ice storm because their child has had no electricity since 8pm the night before, then miss work to work on a generator so they have electricity so the pipes wouldn’t freeze? That’s just the kind of man my father is. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him too, no questions asked and I think it’s time he was rewarded for everything he does.

01.22.11

I am nominating a Marine a former Vietnam Veteran who spent a terrible five (5) years as a prisoner at the Hanoi Hilton in Vietnam and was released with all the other POW’s in a public Display. He then dedicated his life to helping Veterans in Texas get their Disabilities that were due them. He just retired after serving Some 40 years of Community Service to Texas and the United States of America. This man stands well above any person I know but is so modest that you would never think that he had all those things happen to him and receive all those Medals given to him, POW; Purple Hearts; Good Conduct; Service Award; Silver Star , and many others. My nomination for this fishing trip is Ronald (Ron) Ridgeway. A True American and A True TEXAN. Your Comments

01.22.11

a very inspiring post…thank you..you made me think things over so now i’m going to take another course..you just didnt know how much you enlightened me

01.22.11

Your CommentsI would like to votr for my best friend ,Glen A. Meyers. He has been one of the most generous people I have ever known, one day December 10,2008 after catching 5 German brown trout he had to go pick up his son from school. While heading for his truck he had too cross a train trussle suddenly he was struck by a train. He lost a leg and after several surgeries and lots of physical therapy. He recoverd and we still fish that fishing hole and continue to be successful there!. I believe he very much deserves a good fishing trip,of a lifetime and a lifetime of good fishing.

01.22.11

Your Comments Iwould like to nominate Dean Smith Jr. He is a Columbus, Ohio firefighter, who is a friend and neighbor. He puts his life on the line everyday to save us and our love ones, be they strangers, friends or pets. Over the years there have be many times he has made plans to go fishing (the second love of his life) and had to cancel at the last minute because of his job. His normal vacation is usually taken up by the first love of his life, honey do projects and heiping his friends with there projects. This is a gerat guy that brings comfort and a feeling that someone cares to everyone he meets. Why is he like this,he says “it goes with the job, you have to try to make people see the bright side of things after they have lost almost everything they own”.

01.22.11

i dont know if you can do this but i am nominating 2 people to go an this trip Jesse Duclos and Hunter brooke

01.22.11

im sory i didnt know that it was for the wounded disregard the earlier one from me

01.22.11

Chelsea,

Thanks for your post. These trips aren’t ONLY for wounded warriors. They are for any deserving angler. It’s not a random drawing though, so could you please explain why you nominated those Jesse & Hunter?

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my husband Daniel. I belive he would love the opportinty 2 own a boat. During the summer he like to fish all the time weather it is day or night. I just know that he would love this and would greatly apprecate anything to do with fishing.

01.22.11

Your Comment: I would like to nominate my brother Lauren Dean Smith II.

He has spent his life helping so many people as a firefighter/medic. He has followed in our father’s, Lauren Dean Smith Sr., footsteps and so has his son, Lauren Dean Smith III. Three generations of firefighters.

He has also been a great brother and uncle to me and my family. If ever we need anything Dean is right there. He will drop what he is doing and he is there for us. I can always count on him. I am sure many others feel the same way.

Dean loves fishing and I and I love my brother. I hope he gets this opportunity.

01.22.11

Your Comments
I would like to nominate my husband, Dean Smith Jr. He is the most caring, compassionate, unselfish person I know. He is always putting the needs of others before his own. If there is anyone that needs help with anything, he is the first to volunteer. He is always willing to give a helping hand no matter the situation and never expects anything in return, whether it be working on someone’s car, or plowing snow from all the driveways on our street.

He also has a keen eye for detail and never hesitates to get involved as a concerned citizen. The other day we were going to town, and he noticed 3 “suspicious” teenagers
hanging around a business that was closed. Two of them left in a car and we followed the third after Dean called the police. The suspect was obviously casing other businesses.
The police caught him and was thankful that Dean got involved as more break ins were
aborted. This is the kind of person Dean is, always willing to help no matter what.

Dean’s real passion is fishing, something he started with his dad, and has carried on to his
son. He would really appreciate this opportunity to go fishing!!

01.22.11

I would like to nominate BenJamin Lakey, I am a stroke survivor I thought that my life was pretty much over with, always mopping around the house with nothing to do or look forward to, ben who is a u.s. veteran, purchessed a boat and took me fishing for the first time on a boat. now I can hardly get enough of it, now when he calls me to say lets go fishing, there is a smile so wide on my face,, I’m always ready to go now

01.22.11

I would like to nominate my boyfriend Eric Kennedy. He is my true Hero. He has done so verry much for me & my 9yr old son. ( Who is on the way to becoming a great fisherman). He never seems to have time to do anything for his self. Between taking care of his house, helping me with mine, helping his sister & work at the family lake house there is no time left. A trip like this is just what he needs!

01.22.11

I would like to nomiate Larry Draughn a young Marine that is a double leg amputee from his service in Iraq. He also had lost two fingers on his right hand. After some 22 surgery’s all he wants to do is go fishing. Larry loves to fish and I can’t think of a better way to say thank you to this Marine for his sacrafices for our country than to give him a fihsing trip with one of the pros.

01.22.11

Joe,

It’s always good to see you and it was great talking to you today.

GREAT Nomination! These warriors and their families all deserve everything we can do for them as they have sacrificed so much for us.

I can’t thank you enough for what you are doing for these guys. You are a class act and a great example of how we should all harness whatever it is that we are passionate about, and use it to have a positive impact on other people’s lives.

Safe travels, tight lines and slow burning stogies,

Keith

I would like to nominate Sgt. Lee Garnto. He has served his country with honor as a law enforcement officer as well as in the Army Reserves. He has been activated twice in the past several years to serve in Iraq as well as stateside training soldiers who were preparing to deploy to the war zones. He holds the rank of Sergeant in both the military and as a Deputy Sheriff. Lee handles himself in a professional manner and recently was credited with saving a man’s life who was pinned in a burning vehicle during a traffic crash. Lee was the first responder on the crash scene and extinguished the fire prior to rendering first aide until the arrival of medics. During the incident he was also credited with rescuing a small dog which kept returning to the vehicle to stay with the owner. I realize there are many deserving individuals for this honor and appreciate any consideration you will give to my nomination.

01.22.11

Brad,

Thanks for your nomination. Sgt. Garnto is a true hero. I’m sure you are proud to have him in your department. Your nomination will be forwarded to my producer.

Keep up the great work.

Best,

I dont know if the fishing trip is still going or not but if it iz I would like to nominate my mom. Her name is Linda Wayland and she loves to fish. She hasn’t been able to since she was diagnosed with cancer. I want to nominate her because she is my hero. For the past 12 years she has fought this battle and still puts everyone elses needs above her own. She has fought breast cancer and beat it zhe is fighting diabetes and bone cancer now. She has put smiles on the faces of strangers and has helped in ways only they understand. She has taught me to live my life but never give up on God for he will never steer you wrong and will only dish out what you can handle. She has also taught me what makes you cry will only make you stronger and no matter what life brings you it will make your faith stronger for He will help see you thru it all.

01.22.11

There are so many individuals that are doing good works throughout our Nation that any of the nominees would be well deserving, I could give a list of deserving individuals that would take a while to read. I truly would like to see a program developed that would give the youth and underpriveliged an oppurtunity to experience Fishing like I have for the past 55 years, I am a disabled VietNam Veteran with PTSD and also a cancer survivor. The future of Fishing of all types rest in our youth there is a book that says Teach the Children,
Albert Miller

My wife Vickie has so far beaten Stage 4 Uterine cancer for over 5 years. The surgeon stated how aggressive and deadly this cancer is. Chemo and radiation could not keep this woman down. We fished as many days as possible during her recooperation. She is a walleye and crappie fanatic, we live in Eastern Washington state. This would be a dream come true for her.
